Product Overview
Mary is a single mother of 8 children. Her 14 year old daughter was raped and now has a 4 month old baby as well. They live in a two room mud house with inadequate doors and windows. She lives in this building in exchange for keeping an eye on the property owners land and gardens.
Mary only completed school through the 7th grade. Most of her children were home because she didn't have money for school fees. Even her children are wearing clothes that are too small because she doesn't have a way to even purchase used clothing.
We really thought hard on how to help Mary. A one time donation would find her in the same situation just a couple months from now.
We decided on a plan:
- Pay for one year of schooling for her children
- Purchase three months of food for her family
- Purchase much needed items like mattresses, blankets, and cooking supplies
- Mentor Mary in finding a job or obtaining a trade skill
- Once Mary has a job, train her in money management skills
We recevied the funding for the above plan, except for small things that arise during the year. The children are in school, and the above things have been accomplished except for Mary's job. She is having trouble finding employment. We found a local ministry that provides trade skills for girls who are living on the street. They have agreed to allow Mary into their program. She started their program in October and will finish March 2024. She has transporation costs to and from class each day that totals $24/week. The training is being provided for free but we will want to give a donation to their organization as a thank you for training Mary.
