Product Overview
My precious friend Vallary. It all started with her.
I was in Kenya for 6 weeks to teach at Thrive for Good's training center. During this time Vallary was hired as their cook. I was working directly with the cooks to teach them fermentation and new dietary practices. It didn't long for me to observe that this woman was really struggling.
One day she was irritable and I asked her what was wrong. She said that she had a child under the age of one, that she was nursing, and she had to leave her home at 4 am to walk to work that day... because she didn't have the fifty cents needed for a taxi.
When she confided in me about some of the other things she was going through, her whole body just trembled and i remember crying out to God; why do some have to suffer so much more than others?
A year later she shared this with me: They didn't have a place to live, so they were at her parents home. Her father was an alcoholic and the situation in the home was not good at all. She was sharing a small bedroom with her two sisters and they each had their children as well. There was a bunk bed set and one full bed. Vallary and her four children slept in the full bed. Her one sister slept in the bottom bunk with her children, and the other sister on the top bunk with her children. They had a charcoal cooker in the corner of the room as their "kitchen". I visited her at this home and saw with my own eyes.
Vallary was hurting from abandonment as well as the reality of no idea how she would provide for her children. She decided to purchase poison to put into their food. She would die right along with them. She struggled to sleep that night but in the morning she put the poison into their food. As she called them to the table she heard a voice in her head say "what if they die but you don't". She immediately disposed of the poison laden food. That night she spent on her knees praying "God, if you are real, you have to show me how to provide for these children". The next morning she found out about the cooking job, applied, and was hired! She had never heard of their organization before and it was on the complete opposite end of town! But it was at this job that she was able to meet me and God put His plan in place for her life.
